Dredging the River Tyne

 The 5000 ton trailing suction dredger Crestway dredging the main channel at the mouth of the River Tyne, 7th. May 2011.



 Between the tides she sailed between North Shields Fish Quay and the open sea.
 This is a remarkably manoeuvrable ship. When she reached the Fish Quay she turned in mid-river, almost in her own length, as the following sequence shows



 After turning, this picture and the next show the suction pipe being lowered back into the river, over the port side.
